CE Course Description

Welcome to your Texas Annuity Continuing Education course. The eight hours of continuing education regarding annuities required in the TIC §4004.202(b) must be completed during the resident agents' two-year licensing period. Only TDI-approved courses with registered providers can be used to meet this requirement.

All producers who continue to sell annuity products must complete 8 hours of department-certified annuity continuing education every license period by refresher course(s) that enhances the knowledge, understanding & professional competence of the student with regard to one or more subjects described below:

This annuity training course includes information on the following topics:

  • The types of annuities and various classifications of annuities;
  • Identification of the parties to an annuity;
  • How fixed, variable and indexed annuity contract provisions affect consumers;
  • The application of income taxation of qualified and nonqualified annuities;
  • The primary uses of annuities;
  • Appropriate sales practices; replacement and disclosure requirements.

This continuing education course will provide you with quality continuing education for meeting your state CE requirements. It focuses on Annuities with attention to the various types of annuities and issues specific to states in the arena of accumulation through annuities.

Distribution opportunities and tax consequences for withdrawals that are a fundamental component of annuity accumulation programs are highlighted. Explored are the types of annuities - Fixed, Variable, and Indexed.

Reviews include the parties to an annuity along with their rights and responsibilities as well as the provisions of fixed, variable, and indexed annuities. We talk about how they affect consumers. Taxation of qualified and non-qualified annuities is discussed. We review specific qualified tax sheltered plans. The primary uses of annuities are explored.

Successful completion of this course satisfies the Texas Annuity continuing education course requirement.

Required CE Hours for Renewal in Texas

50% of the CE renewal hours must be completed with a classroom equivalent course or in a classroom setting.

Special Training/Education Requirements (LTC, Flood, Ethics, others)

  • Long Term Care -LTC

    • Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department of Insurance certified course.
    • Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.
  • Flood Insurance Training

    • An insurance producer who sells flood insurance may satisfy the minimum training and education requirements by completing a 3-hour course related to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

How Hours are Reported

  • CE completions are submitted electronically the next business day after a passing completion is acquired.

License Term

  • License renewal is every 2 years from the date that the license was originally issued.

Final Exam

  • Final exams do not need to be monitored and are open book.
  • Must score at least a 70% for a passing grade.

Carryover CE Hours

Completion Certificates

  • Certificates of completion are available as soon as a course is completed with a passing grade. Certificates should be printed and kept on file for future reference.
